Hello there,
I’m Clare Glade-Wright,
your new independent candidate
for the Legislative Council,
for Huon.

I’m running for the Legislative Council because I believe Tasmania needs more independent, community-focused voices in Parliament. The role of a Legislative Councillor is to review laws carefully, represent their community faithfully, and hold government to account for fair, efficient, and transparent decision-making. I want to bring that spirit of integrity, balance, and genuine local representation to the Legislative Council — ensuring that the voices of people in Huon are heard and respected in every decision that affects our state’s future.

Who
AM I

I’m a community-minded Southern Tasmanian – Mum to two small children, Deputy Mayor of the Kingborough Council, and a former award-winning tourism operator with a law degree. I know what it’s like to stretch the family finances in small business, and to want action on big issues. I listen to and advocate for others, driven by a strong work ethic and the values of integrity, inclusion, transparency and accountability.

WHY
AM I
RUNNING

During my time in local government, much of my advocacy has focused on state-level issues — from road safety concerns to statewide approaches to land rezoning and bushfire bunker accreditation. As a community-minded independent, I believe the role of a Legislative Councillor is to act as an independent voice for the community — carefully reviewing laws, holding government to account, and ensuring that decisions reflect local needs rather than party agendas. I am committed to bringing a more collaborative, thoughtful, and transparent approach to Tasmanian politics.

WHAT
I STAND
FOR

I’m standing for the Legislative Council because Tasmanians deserve real scrutiny, not blank cheques. The Macquarie Point Stadium has become a billion-dollar gamble. Legislative councillors must hold the government to account for how it spends our money — with transparency, fairness, and fiscal responsibility. I’m running to make sure Tasmanians get honesty in public spending and value for every dollar.

Clare took the time out of her busy schedule to come and meet with club stakeholders and understand the issues, opinions and suggestions from various people. Clare then went away and considered the arguments, she encouraged council staff and other elected members to also come and understand the issues themselves so that they could be better informed around the problems a particular council decision would cause within the community.
